Jaymie H. Mangelsdorf (Balboa) was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. In 1999, Jaymie moved to San Antonio to obtain a B.A. and an M.A. in political science from UTSA. Jaymie has 19 years of experience in the area of governmental relations, specializing in local, state, and the federal government. Her career in governmental relations began at City Hall in 2000 as a Council Aide to then-Councilwoman for District 8, Bonnie Conner. In 2001, shortly after 9/11, Jaymie accepted a non-paid internship with the United States Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. Jaymie’s mother, an educator tutored after school for extra income to help Jaymie as she knew a non-paid internship was an opportunity to further her career. In 2003, she was afforded the opportunity to work for the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SAHCC) as the Vice President of External Affairs. In 2006, Jaymie became the first Latina within UT System in the area of governmental relations and is celebrating her 12th year at UT Health as the Senior Director for Governmental Relations. Jaymie is a current board member for the SAHCC and is the current Chair of the Latina Leadership Institute (LLI), a leadership program owned and managed by the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber. Jaymie is married to a surgical nurse, Charles and together, they have one son – Ryan.
